STEAM comes to School Age!

The South Boston Neighborhood House was recently awarded a $25,000 grant from the Alice P. Chase Trust, managed by BNY Mellon to support a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) initiative in our School Age Program. We are very excited as we have wanted to incorporate STEAM into School Age for a while now but have not had the resources. STEAM has come to the forefront of early education in the school systems over the past few years and there is now a movement to incorporate it into out of school time. SBNH’s School Age program is an after-school program during the school year and a full day summer camp in the summer and we plan to begin introducing STEAM activities into both. Activities will range across a wide variety of STEAM topics including electronics, math, theater, coding and more! The funds will provide us with materials and supplies for STEAM activities as well as allowing us to partner with an outside vendor that can lead STEAM activities with the school age kids and train our staff to be able to lead STEAM activities. We couldn’t be more excited about this addition to our program and are so grateful to BNY Mellon for making it possible.
