Volunteering Opportunities in South Boston

There are countless ways to get involved at the South Boston Neighborhood House. Our goal is to help individuals and corporations find opportunities that fit their needs while also helping to make a difference.

We are grateful to the many individuals, companies and organizations that have given their time and resources showing our youth and their families that someone cares. We hope you choose to become a part of the important work that we do.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers are an integral part of the South Boston Neighborhood House. Each year, hundreds of individuals and groups donate their time and talent with our agency. We rely heavily on the generosity of our volunteers to carry out our programs and services. A volunteer can be involved in a one time only event or can work in a program over a longer period of time. Read more about our policies and protocols for volunteering here. Volunteers can get involved in the following ways:

  • Tutoring and Mentoring Youth
  • Fundraising
  • Event Committees
  • Family Fun Nights
  • Family Engagement Events
  • Holiday Gift Drive
  • Youth and Family Dances

SPECIAL EVENTS

The Neighborhood House hosts many events which require volunteer participation as well as financial support. These events are great opportunities for occasional volunteer involvement, financial sponsorship or in-kind donations.

CORPORATE INVOLVEMENT

The Ollie offers corporations the opportunity to get involved in one time or on-going projects. For example, a company might like to sponsor and organize an event for one of the programs, enhance a program space, or paint a classroom. Likewise, involvement can be ongoing such as orchestrating monthly community service projects for school age youth or semi-annual house cleaning and painting. We ask that the group provide the necessary supplies to complete the project.

HOLIDAY HELPER

The South Boston Neighborhood House is one of the oldest continuously operated community based non-profit organizations in South Boston. The Mission of the South Boston Neighborhood House (The Ollie) is “to support family and neighborhood life in South Boston.” One of the many important guiding principles is to reach out and meet the needs of families experiencing social and economic stress.
This year over 400 families will reach out to the SBNH for Holiday Help. Some families are in need of basic items such as coats, hats and gloves or gift cards to local supermarkets while other families are in need of sponsors to grant their children’s Holiday Wish Lists.
Please consider donating a new coat, along with new hats and gloves for boys and girls, sizes ranging from infants to school age. If you are able to provide a Gift Card to a local supermarket or Target – that is also very helpful to our families. Should you want to help more there are several Family Wish Lists ready and waiting to be matched – you can make this Holiday a Magical One for a family or several families —
You tell us how you would like to help!
